Para mim o processo de investigação parte da busca de objectos abandonados. Ao caminhar pela rua, oiço-os sussurrar-me histórias de tempos outrora passados. Há qualquer coisa de poderoso nestes objectos que carregam marcas de uma intimidade com vidas humanas, impressões do tempo que vai passando. O critério de apropriação prende-se com o potencial que sinto para transformar os objectos, interessa-me esse desvio de significados. Simultaneamente, reside em mim o desejo de redescobrir ressonâncias do passado, do que já foi. Em (Tensão) é o resultado de uma procura contínua de testar e descobrir os limites das próprias matérias. Uma busca sem fim já que estas vivem em constante processo de mutação. Desde a efemeridade do sabão que se apaga a si próprio, à rigidez do cimento que por vezes cede à pressão da tela.

For me the process of investigation begins with the quest to find abandoned objects. As I walk through the street, I hear them whisper stories of way back when. There is something powerful in these objects that carry the marks of human intimacy, scares of the time that passes by. The criterion for appropriating the object lies in the potential for transformation I feel the object possesses, I actively search for these deviant meanings. At the same time, the desire to rediscover the resonances of the past, of what once was. In (Tension) is the result of a continuous search to test and discover the limits of the materials themselves. They live in a state of constant mutation, making it an endless endeavour. From the ephemeral nature of soap that erases itself, to the rigid concrete that gives in to the canvas' pressure.

Mariana Pestana nasceu em Lisboa em 1997. Desde nova que frequentou cursos de Artes Plásticas e procurou uma vida nas Artes. Estudou um ano em Design de Equipamento na faculdade de Belas Artes e outro em Bateria na escola Hot Clube de Portugal. No entanto, foi no curso de Pintura que estudou em Belas Artes, terminado em 2021, que encontrou a sua verdadeira paixão.

Mariana Pestana was born in Lisbon 1997. She attended numerous Plastic Arts courses during her youth and has been searching for a life in Arts since. She studied Equipment Design for a year in Belas Artes as well as the drums in Hot Clube Portugal. It was in her Painting course however that she found her passion for fine arts in Belas Artes, which she finished in 2021.
